It’s been a long agonising wait since I first got the email asking me if I wanted to take part in my favourite pizza joint’s newest social campaign. The idea was simple. A Pizza of the Month Club. Each month a different blogger gets to design a pizza, give it a name and make it their own, for that month. I got the email in January. It’s now June. That’s a long time that I had to wait before I could try this.
The Big Boy.
What’s the hook? Each blogger’s pizza gets sold for the entire month at all seven Casalotti’s stores across Jozi. They track sales throughout the year and the pizza with the highest sales gets a permanent slot on the Casalotti’s menu. In my opinion, that’s worth competing for.
I’ve watched (and drooled) over the other pizzas, as the months on the calendar rolled by. And tough competition it has been. There was Nicki’s Pico de Dadic in February. Brandslut’s All You Knead is Love in March. Jo Lurie’s The Cheese Knees in April and Thando’s The Lip Smacker.
And then there’s my entry. A thing of beauty. It’s a combination of mine and my husband’s favourite toppings. It’s good. Really, really good. (I’m not just saying that because I had to wait six months to taste it!) It’s the perfect combination of meat and cheese, tangy tomato balanced with sweet red onion. And the balsamic glaze? You have no idea. It’s incredible in your mouth. Along with the melt-in-your-mouth olives, it’s just taste insanity.
What’s in it for you? You can taste my creation for yourself – this month only at Casalotti’s. While you’re at it, you’ll be helping me in my attempt to earn The Big Boy a home for life on this legendary pizza menu. And if that’s not a worthwhile goal, I don’t know what is. If you do try my pizza, please let me know what you think. I’m @ExMi on Twitter and Instagram, too.
