Blog Swapping

Hey, everyone! I’m Andhari and I blog at Insomniac Lolita. This is my 2nd blog swap I’ve participated and I’m excited. The topic is The Best Thing About Being A Blogger and man, I have a LOT to say about that.

The first time I created a blog was around 6 to 7 years ago in high school, but it was nothing serious. It was in friendster, xanga, and myspace for God’s sake! Super ridiculous. My readers are limited to close friends. They have blogs too and we gossiped about tons of stuff like boys, school drama, and clothes. Don’t get me wrong, I still talk about boys, drama, and clothes too in my blog from time to time ( haha! ) but I share deeper thoughts there as well. I’m more cautious in what I said and you’d never find me writing stuff like “Nina wore super tight pink tube top to the mall today. Her boobs were all over the place. What a skank!”. I suppose I’m growing up?

I started blogging a bit more seriously in early 2007. I experienced a bit of life crisis and was in a serious emo phase but I could not let it out. Iย  was quite distant with several close friends too. My shrink told me I should let it out because that’d make me feel better. He advised me to buy a journal, or make a blog. I did both but continue with the blog much longer. In that first year of “serious blogging”, I almost didn’t have any reader. I only knew a few blog owner friends but we only commented in each other’s blogs once in a while.

Then sometime in 2008, I joined 20-Something Bloggers. I am now working for them in their membership / community team. The network blows my mind because I found a lot of fellow bloggers around my age who share a lot of things in common with me and even go through similar problems. It’s so amazing. My once quiet blog was suddenly a bit more crowded because the more I connect with other bloggers, the more they drop by and talk to me. I’m so happy and flattered how these people take so much interest in me and make me feel important. Like random thoughts I’ve scribbled actually mattered. To tell you the truth, there are times that I think my blog friends understand how I feel more than my non blog friends over here. There are several occasions when I’m sad and they’re there, practically overflowing my comment box with encouraging, spirit-lifting comments. Some of them even went further, emailing and tweeting to ask me whether I’m okay. That’s unbelievably nice. Best thing ever.

Beside having your own support system, another best thing about being a blogger is when you meet up with your blog friends in real life. I haven’t done that a lot but in all three opportunities that I got to meet some of them, it was fantastic. I have this theory that when you like someone’s blog and the people you meet turn out exactly like how they’re portrayed in their blogs, you’ll love them. I’ve had a blog friend visited me all the way from across the ocean and spent a few days with me in my city. I thought it might be a bit awkward but I was wrong. Meeting her was like meeting a long lost friend, so much to talk about. I hope in the future I get to meet a bunch more blogger friends.

What do you like best about being a blogger?

And having a support community is the best thing when you blog. I haven’t exactly reached there yet but I have a few loyal readers whose comments always make me happy.

Finally I can comment on one of your post Andhari, even though it is when it’s in someone else’s blog, it’s actually even better, I love this blog-swap thing, it lets me find more cool blogs around the blogsphere! ๐Ÿ˜€ Hello exmi! Hehe…

ANd I can’t help but agree, I love the blogging world, I love how it brings so many new friends for me, it helps me solve my problem and give billions of virtual hugs which is as effective as a real hug when I am down ๐Ÿ˜€

and Exmi, I love your post on Andhari’s blog too, but since I can’t comment in there (I have issues with commenting on blogger), I’ll just say I love your post and Hello there! Be friend? ๐Ÿ˜€

The friendships you form are obviously a very important part of blogging. I really didn’t expect to find so many cool and interesting people when I started.

The reason I started blogging and I think the thing I enjoy about it most is (hopefully) entertaining people. If I get a comment from someone and they tell me they laughed during my post then I’m happy.. because laughter and happiness are great things to try and spread.
