So it’s no secret I’m, like, the laziest person on the face of the planet. Exercise? What’s that?
When I signed up for the Xbox 360 Kinect Mommy Bloggers Fitness Challenge, I wasn’t really thinking about doing exercise, I was thinking about winning that Xbox 360 and Kinect. When the Xbox arrived at my house last Friday, it suddenly dawned on me that holy fuck, I’ll actually have to pull finger and move my butt, if I want to win.
The deal is as follows: myself, and four other mommy bloggers (Tertia, Angel, Gina and Diane) have to take part in the 3week Cardio Kickstart program, and deal with an on-screen personal trainer for 21 days as he/she grills our asses into some semblance of fitness.
EA Sports Active 2 is the Kinect game that we’re all playing, that allows you to work out at your own pace, in the privacy of your own home. Don’t feel like getting up and getting dressed and going to gym? Don’t feel like having people watch you while you work out? Get a Kinect. Get EA Sports Active 2. Work out at home. In your underpants. It’s that easy. The game comes with everything you’ll need – a resistance band as well as a heartrate monitor, and together these are the tools (along with the Kinect motion sensor) that allow you to work out, and have your progress tracked and measured.
You can follow the pre-made workouts, or you can custom-design your own, to target specific areas of your body. After eight workouts, I must say – EVERYTHING hurts, and it hurts badly. But in a totally good way, as everything feels tighter and firmer already!
There are tutorials that help you perform all of the exercises and much like Foursquare, there are badges to be unlocked for various achievements – designed to keep you motivated and focused. Although, I doubt I’ll be unlocking any badges for 1000 squats/lunges – OMG!
And if I do – I better bloody win this Xbox, otherwise that will be one thousand wasted lunges!
So here are my stats thus far:
- Calories burned: 553.9
- Total exercise time: 02:23:11
- Workouts completed: 8
- Programs completed: 0
- Milestones earned: 18
- Average heartrate: 120
- Average heartrate recovery time: 2:09min
- Gauge points earned: 420
Let’s hope I can keep this up for three weeks!
So, where’s everyone else at in the challenge?
