It’s been just over a month that we’ve been living in the new house. A week after The Toffee was born, we chucked the remainder of our possessions in boxes and vacated the townhouse we’d been living in since a week before The Kid was born, five years ago.
It was a nightmare to unpack five years’ worth of accumulated crap, but it’s pretty much done now. The last piece of furniture arrived yesterday. A newly restored eight-seater dining room set I scored off Gumtree. It turned out to be Indonesian teak.
Which was a huge sigh of relief for me, because buying something from someone who’s unsure what kind of wood it is? Risky. I took a chance that I wasn’t puying someone’s secondhand pine crap, and it worked out. The guy that restored it got an offer from another client to purchase it, so I did okay.

The arrival of the dining room suite prompted a reshuffle of the lounge, in order to accommodate couches previously and temporarily located in the dining room. From this:

To this:

I have nowhere else to put my router and Airport, so it got hidden in plain sight. Those strelitzias? From our garden.

This is our bedroom.

This is The Kid’s room:

And our fireplace. (Thanks, mom!)

This is part of our new kitchen:

This is our new stove that went into our new kitchen.

This is my front lawn. LAWN. We have a lawn. How GROWN-UP is that? This picture was taken before winter. Obvs.

We even have a back lawn. A BACKYARD. That’s more than just a strip of paving and a washing line.

And a POOL.
And parquet floors!

There’s still so much to do, but we’re in and we’re mostly unpacked. Most importantly? It’s OURS.

Love your new kitchen, I’m uber jealous!
Hope you’ll be very happy in your new home.

It’s amazing T. I know you’ll be very happy there for many years. Just a quick one though am I the only person concerned about the lack of a pool net or pool fence? I’m PARA about our new pool…
What an awesome home. I feel your pain on moving and unpacking, just doing it myself.
